FIRST, I want to apologize if nothing in this entry makes sense or if there is a typo — I’ve been so sick this week it’s not even funny so please bare with me.
Sometimes you’ll never forget your introduction to a band, especially if it comes with an awkward situation. If you know me, you know I attend a lot of concerts especially in the San Diego Area. If you don’t know me, know this concert going for me is better than therapy. Anyway, one time while waiting with some friends outside a local venue a guy told me he knew me and he just couldn’t figure out where from. We had a back and forth for a few minutes; him insisting he knew me and me insisting I had no clue. Eventually we laughed it off and assumed that he’d probably seen me at the venue since I pretty much live there. He told me about his band how they were having a show in a few weeks — so I agreed to go. What I saw amazed me, and I think that if you ever get the opportunity to see this band live will amaze you too.
White Apple Tree claims to be the lovechild of determination and boredom. That must be one powerful couple then. Ryan Lawhon (vox/electronica/guitar/keyboards), brother Taylor Lawhon (vox/keyboards) and Stefan Mac (vox/drums) come together to form a surreal energy that translates into a beautiful experience of music. There songs are refreshing and full of raw emotion, but the greatest element they hold is in their live show. A must see that will leave you begging for more. Ryan Lowhon started a one man band after purchasing a Tascam 8-track recording system despite the fact that Ryan really did not know what to do with the machine. He begin playing around with it and soon gathered a mic and a keyboard to record his first track – ‘Eyes’. Soon Ryan was able to develop his own style and share music through myspace. Soon Taylor and Stefan joined the mix to create what is now the White Apple Tree.
You might have heard their song ‘Snowflake’ on Season 2 of Gossip Girl . Their debut album ‘Velvet Mustache’ is due out in January and I highly suggest you get your hands on a copy. I got the opportunity to see some songs coming from it live this past weekend and let me tell you, they sounded great!
